Fillings

Fillings, or restorations, are used to restore integrity and strength to a tooth that is damaged by carries (cavities) or other trauma.  “Filling” refers to the actual filling of a hole in a tooth with restorative materials after the decayed portion of the tooth is removed.  Restorative materials include dental amalgam (silver colored), gold and composite resins (white fillings).

While there has been much discussion by the news media with regard to the safety of dental amalgam, the American Dental Association maintains that they are safe and effective restoration material.
